Pond Cove students enjoy some outdoor learning and exploration.

With the enormous success of our new nature-based playground and mounting evidence about the many benefits of time outdoors for both kids and adults, a group of staff members and parents have been working together to facilitate more opportunities to take learning outside during the school day. Pond Cove was fortunate to receive a grant from the Maine Environmental Education Association to create two additional outdoor learning spaces on our campus, plus purchase portable outdoor learning supplies. This will provide classes with even more options for nature-based learning—or for simply enjoying a read-aloud, math class, or writing workshop in the fresh air. Work is in progress and these spaces will be ready for classes to use next month, just in time for spring weather!
