EXTRA­CURRICULAR PROGRAMS
 
The goals of our middle school extra­curricular programs are as follows:
1. Build self-­esteem

3. Expand interest in lifetime and leisure activities

4. Provide an opportunity for social and personal growth

5. Encourage and allow all participants an opportunity to participate

6. Enjoy team camaraderie

7. Allow participants to experience commitment and establish a work ethic

DRAMA CLUB: 5th–8th grade. Fall production (Sept.-Early Nov.); Spring Musical (late Jan ­ Mid April); Auditions held; rehearsals scheduled 3-5 days/wk after school. Weekend performances.

VARIETY SHOW ­ Open to 5th-­8th grade students. Practices are 3­-5 days/week after school prior to performance. Performances in mid-January. Advisor - Steve Price (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
 
JAZZ CLASS: Open to interested seventh grade band members. The class introduces classic jazz tunes while incorporating jazz history. Additionally, interested students will learn basic improvisational skills. Informal performances may take place in the spring. Meets on Thursday mornings at 6:55 am.

MATH TEAM: The 5th/6th grade math team will attend 4 meets this year. Practices will be held after school

YEARBOOK – 5th-­8th grade. Meetings are held during lunch, Sept.–April. Students are involved in all aspects of yearbook production. Advisor: Jack Duffy (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
 
STUDENT COUNCIL: 5th -8th grade. Elections are held in September with meetings held Wednesday mornings at 7:15 a.m. in Ms. Newton’s room throughout the year. CIVIL RIGHTS TEAM: Grade 7-8. The team identifies and addresses issues of bias (especially bias based on race, color, national origin and ancestry, religion, physical and mental disabilities, gender, and sexual orientation) in our school community through education and awareness efforts. PEER HELPER PROGRAM: Grade 7-8. Peer Helpers are paired with fellow schoolmates and meet weekly for lunch, to play a game, or do an activity. Helpers receive training on confidentiality, countering stereotypes and being a positive role model.  Advisors: Kim Sturgeon (This email address is being protected from spambots. XCODE CLUB:
The Club is open to boys and girls in grades 6 through 8. Fifth grade boys and girls may join starting in early March. We meet before school one day a week October through May. The major activity will be learning to create Apps for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPads using the XCode integrated development environment. More information can be found at www.xcodeclub.org.
 
ROBOTICS: Grade 5-6 “Basic Lego Mechanisms” course

SPEECH & DEBATE TEAM: 5th –8th grade. The speech team practices in Mrs. Hawkes room on Friday mornings at 7:15 a.m. The debate team practices in Ms. Newton’s room on Fridays at 7:15 a.m. Monthly meets are scheduled Nov-­Feb

ATHLETICS: All sports are for 7th & 8th grade, unless otherwise noted. Students are responsible for signing up at the beginning of each season! Sign up sheets are located outside the Athletic and Health Director

Check your email and listen to morning announcements for signups and practice times. Most sports hold practices after school with games during the week, although it varies from sport to sport.
