Cathy Stankard has been the Director of Teaching and Learning in Cape Elizabeth since 2016. Prior to that time she served as assistant superintendent in Gorham and curriculum director in Falmouth, where she taught high school history for a decade and also earned certification in secondary social studies from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Before moving to Maine, she was an assistant director of admissions at an independent school in Baltimore, an economist for a law firm, a legislative correspondent for a U.S. senator, and a manager at a bookstore.

Ms. Stankard graduated cum laude from Harvard College, where she majored in history and literature, and earned a master’s degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University, where she specialized in Japanese studies and international economics. She holds a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from the University of Southern Maine and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in educational leadership at Lesley University.
