The Payne/Killip team presented their projects about the trees of Turkey Hill Farm on Sunday, October 21, at CELT’s annual board meeting. This project includes several weeks of study about the importance of trees in Maine history, with a focus on Wabanaki usage and the tree’s current use in the Maine lumber industry. Students were also asked to be able to identifying the unique characteristics of the tree’s bark, leaves or needles, seeds, nuts, or pine cones. Finally, students were asked to send a message from their trees perspective to the world.

This week's field trip with the Kaufman/Kerr 7th Grade Team brought them to the Portland waterfront, where waterfront coordinator Bill Needleman took them on a tour down the fish pier, through the fish exchange and over to Merrill's Wharf where they met up with lobsterman (and team parent) Thom Werner. We continued our walk down Commercial street and around the Eastern Prom where we enjoyed a yummy lunch from the local food trucks. It was a wonderful day!
